Riffs…
I love that word! Riff, “a short rhythmic phrase, especially one that is repeated in improvisation.” Improvising. Another great word. Anyway, that’s what I’ve been up to since my last blog post: improvising around a theme.
If you have read any of my infrequent (and often long) posts, then you’ve probably noticed that I am very passionate about a few things and don’t hesitate to rant about them. I missed a few opportunities to rant over the last few weeks… like the site lala, lala land, who opened and closed a certain “too-good-to-be-true feature” of letting users stream their favorite songs to their computers for free--in less than one month! I wanted to slag off this silly venture that launched without any clear revenue model and dubious user benefits, but I was distracted by my own work. And then I thought that maybe I should be a little more circumspect. I’m about to launch a site with amazing user features, what we hope is a strong revenue model, and I remembered that old adage: “People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones.” Or the other one, “Actions speak louder than words.” Or, “Put your money where your mouth is.” One of those, you know the ones. So back to the riff, so to speak.
In a few weeks this blog will be replaced by a whole new site, the real All Dig Down! The blog was just the placeholder for something much bigger and better. And my blog will just be one of many, hopefully thousands of other blogs (and no doubt much better written). I just wanted to give you a prelude, since so many of you subscribe to this blog or read it for one reason or another.
I bet you really want to know what kind of site it will be, and how you can get in on it--don’t you? I can’t tell you much more than it will be cool, cultural, eclectic. It’s about music and all other forms of entertainment, and will protect artists in the creation of their content, will cater to consumers in their desire to have what they want, where, when and how they want it. Here’s our riff: we’ve been studying form and structure, learning from the best and then improvising a theme for people like us, grown-ups. Orchestrated digital entertainment --unplugged.
There’s more to say. The site should launch sometime this fall. We’re getting our ducks lined up here, and don’t want to be one of those that reveals anything too soon, rips anyone off, or has no other POV (“point of view, in movie land speak”). You’ll get a preview--soon my blog will appear on my alldigdown page. Soon, too, you’ll be able to turn the tables on me, criticizing our site, slagging off our noble objectives. Hopefully there will be lots of happy co-voyagers in the all dig down story.
Stay tuned… But don’t worry: if I can think of anyone or anything to rant about in the meantime, I won’t hold my tongue. You’ll be the first to know.
